Camera Club 90th Anniversary Exhibition - 16th - 29th April

Dorchester Camera Club is celebrating its 90^th anniversary in its 2025/2026 season with the production of its “90^th Anniversary Collection” – a hundred-page photobook printed by Kozu Books in Somerset. The book will form the basis of a forthcoming exhibition from 16^th – 29^th April at The Shire Hall, Dorchester.

The exhibition, which will be free to enter, will feature over 70 images taken by members of the club members, including wildlife, landscape and street photography along with creative, impressionist work. 

Limited numbers of the “90^th Anniversary Collection” will be available for purchase with proceeds being contributed to the West Dorset Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Sadly, one of the club’s members, Frances Underwood, died from this terrible disease in 2022.

Dorchester Camera Club traces its history back to 1935/36. An article in the Western Gazette records the club’s first meeting in Mr Major’s Café in Dorchester. The club’s main founder and first secretary was Maurice Hazelgrove, a schoolmaster at the local Hardye’s Grammar School.

Over the years the club has had many homes around Dorchester, moving from the Mr Major’s Café to other local hotels and pubs and a building adjacent to the town’s County Hall. The club took up its current residence in Brownsword Hall, Poundbury in 2014/15 from where there is an active programme of speakers, competitions and practical nights.
