About the event

The next concert to be given by The Occasional Singers will be on Sunday 17 May at 7.00pm at St Mary’s Church, Dorchester. This auditioned chamber choir based in Dorchester, draws singers from around the county and has earned a reputation for its precision, warmth of tone and excellent ensemble. On this occasion they are thrilled to be joined by the young British Soprano Sumei Bao-Smith and a chamber orchestra, to sing two short choral works: Handel’s joyful anthem ‘Let God Arise’, and Mendelssohn’s tuneful setting of Psalm 42 ‘As the deer pants’. The programme will also include the exquisite soprano aria ‘Scherza Infida’ from Handel’s Ariodante, and a little motet by J S Bach. Besides enjoying making great music together, the choir raises significant funds for local charities. Entrance to their concerts is therefore always FREE, with a retiring collection. On this occasion they are singing for Weldmar Hospicecare which requires over £27,000 a day to provide its outstanding care to the local community. Everyone is most welcome to come along to what promises to be a very special evening.
