Opera at Oborne - 5th - 9th August

Opera in Oborne is a community based venture that aims to make professional opera accessible to the widest possible audience. The performers are all professional singers and musicians, while the experienced production crew are almost all Oborne locals. Ticket prices are set on a breakeven basis.

Oborne's unique appeal is providing chamber opera of a very high quality to a small audience of just eighty people. The fine acoustics of the church building that we use provides an immediacy and intimacy to the performances that few venues can match.

This year's main production is Mozart's Magic Flute. Oborne's abridged version gives the familiar music fresh power and insight in a chamber setting.

Opera in Oborne runs from Wednesday 5th August to Sunday 9th August and as well as three performances of Magic Flute, there is a platform performance of Bach's Coffee Cantata and Wagner's gorgeous song cycle, The Wesendonck Lieder. An open-air concert of favourite arias and show tunes completes the programme on the Sunday.

As mentioned, we try to keep ticket prices to a minimum and, for example, the tickets for Magic Flute have been kept to £45 a head, which just covers the costs of the cast and direct services, lighting and so on.
