Young Jurors: A Victorian Courtroom Experience - 12th August

An unusual school holiday experience at the Shire Hall Museum!

“Young Jurors: A Victorian Courtroom Experience” invites young people aged 10 and over to take part in a realistic courtroom re-enactment in the very courtroom where Victorian trials once took place.

The two-hour experience begins with a guided tour of the historic cells, where participants will discover what life was like for prisoners awaiting trial. After exploring the cells and enjoying a snack, they will be invited to the courtroom to experience what 19th century trials were really like.

As evidence unfolds and defendants are questioned, participants will discover how justice was delivered in Victorian times before the jury reaches its final verdict.

The experience combines local history and drama in a fun and engaging way, while encouraging young people to think critically and work together. It offers a memorable, screen-free activity during the school holidays and a rare opportunity to experience a historic courtroom in action.

Dressing up in Victorian costume is encouraged, but optional!

The event is suitable for young people aged 10 and over, who must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the event (max 5 per adult)

Places are limited and advance booking is highly recommended. Cost is £8 per young person, including snack.
