A Positive Day at the Market: Gratitude, Learning and Community Spirit

Following our recent introduction of Mary O’Flaherty’s new ‘Landmarks of Poundbury’ designs, the Poundbury Good Things team were delighted to return to Crown Square for the Easter market on Sunday 29 March.

It proved to be a really positive and encouraging experience for our team. Thanks to the continued support of our community, the Poundbury Good Things stall was busy throughout, with many visitors stopping to browse, chat and make purchases. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came along and supported us—it truly makes all the difference.
One of the most valuable aspects of Sunday was what we learned as a team. As a group of volunteers, every market is an opportunity to build our confidence and improve how we present Poundbury Good Things—from setting up the stall to understanding what catches people’s eye. There is a real sense of collaboration at the heart of what we do, with everyone pitching in, supporting one another and sharing ideas.
We were especially pleased to see such a warm response to Mary’s new designs which drew a great deal of interest, with many people stopping to take a closer look—and happily, taking cards, bags, tea towels, prints and mugs home with them. It’s such a thrill to see Mary’s creativity so appreciated.
We were also fortunate with the weather. After some uncertain forecasts, the rain held off kindly until everyone had packed up, allowing the day to unfold in a relaxed and enjoyable way. It was lovely to see people lingering, taking their time, and connecting. Great coffee and a delicious selection of things to eat from the many stalls on offer added to the sense of occasion and made it a real pleasure to be part of the day.
All in all, it was a day that reminded us why we do what we do. The encouragement, conversations and support we received made it a genuinely uplifting experience. And as always, every purchase helps us continue to support local good causes and community initiatives right here in Poundbury.
We’re looking forward to being back at the Dorset Farmers Market in Queen Mother Square again soon: watch this space for details.
If you can’t wait till then, Poundbury Good Things is stocked at retail outlets across Poundbury and Dorchester!
