Community Connections: Good Things at Bowes Lyon Court

By Zoe Bell

There's something special about Christmas markets, the buzz of conversation, the scent of seasonal treats, and that sense of community that makes winter gatherings so warm. This week, Bowes Lyon Court hosted a Christmas Market for their residents, and the Community Association of Poundbury was delighted to be invited to join the festivities with our Poundbury Good Things stall.

Bringing the Wider Community In

Bowes Lyon Court, situated in the heart of Poundbury near Queen Mother Square, is home to 62 apartments for residents aged 70 and over. The development features beautiful social spaces including a club lounge, billiards room, restaurant, library, and orangery venues that regularly host activities for residents.

This week's Christmas Market was an internal event, but the invitation to Poundbury Good Things reflected something important: Bowes Lyon Court residents are very much part of our wider Poundbury community. Having a community stall there was a chance to share information about what's happening across Poundbury and ensure residents stay connected to the broader neighbourhood.

Several Bowes Lyon Court residents have watched Poundbury develop from its earliest days. Their experience and perspective matter, they're not separate from our community, they're at its heart. Events like this help ensure they remain connected to everything happening here and beyond.

The dedicated care team at Bowes Lyon Court creates an environment where residents maintain their independence while enjoying a rich social life, and by welcoming community organisations like ours, they help residents stay engaged with the place they call home.

Looking Ahead

As the festive season continues across Poundbury, it's heartening to see how different parts of our community stay connected. Our thanks to the staff and residents at Bowes Lyon Court for their warm welcome, and for reminding us that community is all about inclusion and connection.
