Could a car club work in Poundbury?
For many of us, having access to a car is essential. However, owning a car can also be expensive, particularly if it spends more time parked than used.
Car Clubs can provide another option
A car club is an economical way of using a car, short or long term, and reduces the hassle of car ownership. Members have access to shared vehicles which can be booked when needed, typically by the hour or day. Insurance, servicing and maintenance are included. You pay to use it when you need it.

Car club vehicles are usually located in convenient, accessible places within walking distance. Car clubs typically have a small cluster of cars across an area, to ensure availability when needed.
Car clubs can be useful for people who only need access to a vehicle occasionally, people who mainly walk, cycle or use public transport.
Would you use one?
That's where you can help.
Dorchester Transport Action Group (DTAG), a local group advocating for safe and sustainable travel, is exploring potential interest in a community car club. Poundbury residents have previously expressed interest in a local car club, so DTAG is particularly keen to hear what you think.
DTAG is inviting residents to complete the short survey to provide evidence to possibly proceed with a car club provider. [Take the short survey]
You can also visit DTAG's car club information page to find out how car clubs work, examples of different ways people use them and how they can save money.
