Flight of Dreams: How Helping Hands Gave Sue Her Eagle Moment
When Sue's birthday came around, Helping Hands Dorchester decided that just a card and a cake wouldn't do. Instead, they arranged for her to do something she had wanted to do for some time. She took to the skies!
On a clear Dorset day, Sue arrived at Eyres Airfield and climbed into a glider with her pilot Nick, and what followed, she says, was like "being like an eagle." When she landed, she was so overwhelmed she could hardly find the words. Sometimes the most wonderful moments do that.
While Sue was airborne, Nick's friend Ray took his own aircraft to capture footage of the whole experience from above, which means that Sue has not only the memory but the pictures too. Back on the ground, the morning finished with cake and coffee in the flying club lounge, Sue's family gathered around her, and a mug bearing the Purbeck Flying Club logo to take home as a memento.
A little about Helping Hands
Helping Hands Dorchester is a home care and companionship service operating in and around our area. At its heart is a simple but powerful belief: that care is about far more than practical support. It's about creating opportunities, making memories, and helping people continue to enjoy the things that make life worth living, whatever their age or circumstances. Sue's flight is a beautiful example of that in practice.
If you or someone you know is looking for companionship or care support in the Dorchester area, Helping Hands would love to hear from you.
