Great News for Sunday Bus Travel: Number 10 Gets Extended Route

Following our earlier article about Poundbury's excellent bus services, we have a welcome update about the winter timetable, starting Sunday 21st September: The Number 10 bus service is getting even better with improved weekend frequency:

  • Saturdays: Now running every 15 minutes (improved from 20-minute intervals)

  • Sundays: Every 20 minutes (improved from 30-minute intervals)

The biggest news, however, is that the Number 10 will now be extended to serve the Peverell Avenues on Sundays. This welcome change comes following successful representations made by The Dorchester Transport Action Group (DTAG) to First Bus last year.

The bus will service all stops in both directions through the Peverell Avenues and turn around at the Bridport Road roundabout at the end of Peverell Avenue West.

Town Councillor William Gibbons, who is also a DTAG member, explained the significance: "The X51 and the No6 do not run on Winter Sundays. It is therefore very good news for Poundbury residents that the No10 will run through the Peverell Avenues, servicing all stops on Sundays as from September 21st. There will be a 20-minute interval service to the Hospital, the Town centre, South station, and onto Weymouth."

This means that for the first time, the centre of Poundbury will have regular Sunday bus services connecting residents to Dorchester and Weymouth when other services (Numbers 6 and X51) are not running.

Remember: Use It or Lose It

As we highlighted previously, these improvements only continue if residents use the buses regularly. With more frequent services and extended Sunday coverage, there's never been a better time to leave the car at home and support our local bus network.

The new winter timetable begins on Sunday 21st September—mark your calendars!
