Have You Discovered KeeP 106 Yet?
Updated: Oct 1
If you haven't tuned in to KeeP 106 yet, you're missing a real local gem. Broadcasting on 106.3 FM and online at keep106.com, KeeP 106 is Dorchester's own community radio station, entirely volunteer-run and not-for-profit, and has been for the last 8 years dedicated to serving central-southern Dorset with local news, information and a wonderfully varied mix of music.

The station takes its name from its home at The Little Keep on Barrack Road, once the Officers' Quarters of the old Dorsetshire Regiment barracks, built in 1866, and now sitting opposite the Keep Military Museum. The "106" simply points listeners to where to find it on the dial: 106.3 FM. KeeP 106 traces its roots back to Ridgeway Radio, the hospital radio station that broadcast to patients at Dorset County Hospital for twenty years, and, before that, to West Dorset Hospital Radio, with hospital radio in Dorchester going back more than 60 years in total. Today's station counts former presenters from Wessex FM, Dorset's old commercial station, among its volunteers. You might already know Steve Bulley, Kieran Williams and James O'Neil.
From afternoon shows packed with music, facts and local news, to folk, reggae, 70s classics and much more in the evenings, there's something for every taste. KeeP 106 also does a brilliant job covering the stories that matter to us here, from local events and council decisions to charity appeals and community fundraisers, all produced by people who live and work in Dorset.
We were delighted to be invited onto the station recently to talk about the Community Association of Poundbury, and it was a real pleasure to see just how much care and passion goes into what they do. We're excited to be developing a closer partnership with KeeP 106 in the months ahead, and we'd encourage everyone to give them a listen, whether on the radio dial, online, or via the KeeP 106 website.
Tune in to keep106.com or 106.3FM, and follow them on Facebook or X.
