UPDATE: 17th July 2026

The consultation for Dorchester has yet to start.  It should commence next week (w/c 20th July) and will continue across the summer with a consultation stands at events such as the Food and Arts Festival

More details and link to the specific proposal will follow and we will share these with members and newsletter subscribers as soon as they are made available.

-----------------------------------

As many of you many know, Dorset Council will open a formal public consultation on a proposed 20mph speed limit scheme for Dorchester, and residents have been encouraged to take part.

The proposal would introduce a 20mph limit across Dorchester's roads—with one local exception. Under the current proposals, Middle Farm Way in Poundbury would remain at 30mph, on the grounds that it has wide verges, no houses at the street edge, few junctions, and good visibility. The intention is to encourage drivers to use Middle Farm Way as the main route through, keeping Poundbury's other roads quieter. It has been noted that the road was originally proposed as a 40mph limit and that enforcement of a 20mph limit there could be difficult.

A decision on the final proposal is expected in November.

This is the statutory consultation, so it counts. Only comments submitted through this formal process will be officially considered as part of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) procedure.
