Holmead Walk Gets A Long-Awaited Makeover For Spring

If you've visited Holmead Walk recently, you may have spotted a busy team of five hard at work — and it's great news for one of Poundbury's most-loved green spaces.

On 2 March, The Duchy of Cornwall commenced a major pruning project along the full length of Holmead Walk, through Jubilee Wood and all the way down to Maiden Castle Road. Local contractors Forrest and Tree Care from Burton Bradstock are on the job, with work expected to take up to a month.

The focus is on the hedges and the beautiful avenue of beech trees — overgrowth had been gradually encroaching on these trees, and the work will restore both health and character to the area. And the timing is no accident: as Councillor William Gibbons puts it, "We are delighted that the work is being undertaken now before the bird nesting season and the spring growth."

There's another reason to celebrate. This work is being undertaken by the Duchy before it grants the lease of the area to the Town Council — a significant step towards long-term, community-led stewardship of the area.

Watch this space — quite literally!
