First, the short version:
1. It makes donating to the association much simpler
2. Your card details never go directly to us
3. You don't have to create an account if you don't want to
4. Bank transfer stays available — nothing is being taken away
Still with us? Good. Here's the fuller picture.
What PayPal actually is
PayPal is a secure middle layer between you and whoever you're paying.
Instead of typing your card details into every website separately, you enter them once into PayPal. From then on, PayPal handles the transaction. The organisation gets paid. Your details stay protected.
It's been around since 1998. Over 400 million people use it.
Most people who try it wonder why they waited.
"Do I have to set up an account?"
No. You can pay as a guest — card details entered just once, PayPal security applied, no account needed. If you want the convenience of saved cards and one-click giving, an account makes sense. Entirely your choice.
"Can I use different cards?"
Yes — and this is one of the things people love most. Add your debit card, credit card, whichever you prefer. Choose which one to use each time. You're in control.

"Why is the Community Association of Poundbury introducing this?"
Right now, voluntary donations require a bank transfer — sort codes, references, logging into online banking separately. It works. But it's more steps than it needs to be.
PayPal makes it: button → click → done.

For members who've wanted to contribute but found the process fiddly — this is for you. For members happy with bank transfer — nothing changes.
Launch is coming in June. Watch this space.
