People First: The Story Behind Parkers Property

If you've lived in Poundbury for any length of time, you'll almost certainly have come across the Parkers Property name. But behind the board and the listings is something somewhat different from your average estate agent: a family-owned business, run by people who don't just work here, but who live here too.

We sat down with Parkers to find out more, and came away with a very clear sense of why so many people in this community trust them with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

A Business Built on Values

Parkers was established in 2010, born out of years of experience in the property industry and a clear conviction: that buying or selling a home deserved better than a transactional, one-size-fits-all approach. "We wanted to create an agency that genuinely put people first," says owner Mark Parker. "We're incredibly hands-on, approachable and accountable, and our clients know they are dealing with people who genuinely care about both the community and the outcome of their move."

Being family-owned, he says, means every client experience matters personally. There are no distant head offices, no shifting teams, no sense that you're just another file on a desk. "Seeing clients return to us years later, or recommend us to friends and family, is incredibly rewarding."

Rooted in Poundbury

What makes Parkers' genuinely distinctive in this community is simple: they're not just based here, Mark and Emma live here with their children and their dog (name?). Having called Poundbury home for around twelve years, they've watched the neighbourhood grow from the inside, which gives them a perspective on the area that no amount of market research can replicate.

"It's been wonderful watching the community grow and evolve while still maintaining its strong sense of identity," says Emma. "Poundbury offers something quite unique: beautiful architecture, walkable neighbourhoods, independent businesses and a real community atmosphere." For buyers considering a move here, that insider knowledge is invaluable. Parkers can speak to the lifestyle just as fluently as the property, and they know that for most people, the two are inseparable.

"People are often looking for more than just a property," Mark explains. "They're looking for a lifestyle and a sense of community. As local residents ourselves, we can give people a genuine insight into what living here is actually like."

The Human Side of Moving

Anyone who has bought or sold a property knows it can be one of life's most stressful experiences. Parkers' philosophy is straightforward: communication, honesty, and never losing sight of the human beings in the process.

"We always try to explain things clearly, keep clients updated and guide them step-by-step. We understand how emotional moving can be." Their sales progression service — the often-overlooked stretch between offer accepted and exchange of contracts — is something they're particularly proud of. "The process can be a rollercoaster ride, and communication with the client is paramount."

One of the most common mistakes they see? Rushing, or focusing too narrowly on the property itself without stepping back to consider the bigger picture. "Honest conversations early on often prevent problems later." It's the kind of advice you'd expect from a trusted friend in the industry.

Beyond the Sale

Parkers' involvement in the local community extends well beyond their work as estate agents. They support local events, local organisations, and — we're delighted to say — they're also are proud sponsors of the LovePoundbury newsletter and website. This support helps us keep doing what we do: keeping the community informed, connected, and celebrated every week. We are genuinely grateful for it.

"Love Poundbury is playing an important role in strengthening the community and celebrating everything that makes the area special," Emma says. "Supporting local organisations and community platforms feels like a natural extension of our values as a business."

Thinking of Moving?

Whether you're buying, selling, or simply curious about what your property might be worth, Parkers invites you to get in touch. Pop into the office, give them a call, or drop them an email. "The first conversation is always informal, friendly and pressure-free. We listen to you, the client, and devise a strategy which you are happy with, and implement it," Emma adds.
