This week saw a big milestone for Poundbury Good Things as the collection will be available to purchase at Shire Hall Museum, on High West Street, Dorchester. This exciting new partnership not only gives our range of locally inspired merchandise a prominent place in one of Dorset’s most historic and prestigious locations, but also helps us raise even more funds for community initiatives in Poundbury.

Created by a small team of volunteers and based on unique designs created by resident, artist and volunteer Mary O’Flaherty, Poundbury Good Things aims to celebrate Poundbury’s local artists, makers and small businesses. What’s more, every item sold helps to support programmes for children, young people and older residents at the Pavilion in the Park, ensuring that purchases make a positive impact close to home.
For the Community Association of Poundbury, the new partnership with Shire Hall Museum is a milestone moment. Nestled on Dorchester’s High Street, Shire Hall is one of the town’s most iconic buildings, with a story rooted in heritage and justice. Housing our collection there creates a natural connection between Poundbury’s modern story chapter and Dorset’s wider history and culture.
Emma Taylor, Volunteer said, “We’re absolutely thrilled that Poundbury Good Things has found a home at Shire Hall Museum. For us, it’s about more than sales – it’s about celebrating our community, sharing the story of Poundbury with a wider audience, and generating funds for projects that really matter to local residents.”
Virginia Smith, Director of Shire Hall Museum, said she was delighted to support the initiative: “Shire Hall is proud to showcase the Poundbury Good Things range. The collection reflects the creativity and identity of the community, while offering visitors beautiful, meaningful souvenirs. We’re especially pleased that sales will directly benefit local projects – it’s a partnership that truly connects heritage, place and people.”

The collaboration means that residents and visitors alike can now pick up a piece of Poundbury while exploring Dorset’s rich history at Shire Hall. It’s a partnership that underlines the spirit of community, creativity and purpose that makes Poundbury special.
So next time you’re in Dorchester, why not stop by Shire Hall Museum, take in the exhibitions, and browse the Poundbury Good Things range – a chance to support local heritage and local people in one.
