Q&A Series: Crown Point — Where Are We Now?

2 min read

This article is part of our Q&A series and follows the Stakeholder Panel at the Community Association of Poundbury AGM on 21 May 2025. We are grateful to all the panel members and to our members who submitted questions in advance.

Following on from our last Q&A article regarding North Dorchester, we now take a look at Crown Point, Poundbury's final construction phase.

The question asked was: What is the current planning status of the Crown Point development? What has been agreed regarding construction traffic and the ongoing management structure?

Crown Point is the name given to the final phase of Poundbury's development, and it has been a regular subject of questions at community meetings. At the AGM in May, we asked for an update on where things stand, and there are some important milestones on the horizon.

Planning application status

Since the AGM, developer Places for People has submitted the formal planning application for Crown Point. The application is currently awaiting officer consideration. At this stage, the developer may choose to submit amendments to address observations or concerns raised by consultees, or they may press ahead for a formal determination — and, as is their right, appeal if the application is not approved. The case officer has not yet indicated a recommendation either way.

The application is publicly available on Dorset Council’s online planning portal at planning.dorset.gov.uk. Search for Crown Point or Places for People to find the relevant documents and track progress. The portal also allows residents to submit formal comments, so it is worth checking and bookmarking.

Construction traffic

Discussions about construction traffic management are ongoing. This is an important topic for residents in the areas most likely to be affected, and it is worthwhile continuing to ask the Poundbury councillors about progress.

Management structure

MANCO 2 will become involved in discussions about the management structure for Crown Point at the appropriate phase of construction. This is consistent with how earlier phases have been managed. If you are not familiar with how Poundbury's management companies (MANCOs) work, please check out their web page.

Stay informed

Crown Point will represent the completion of Poundbury as originally envisioned. That makes it a significant moment for the whole community, and one we will be documenting in the upcoming community history initiative too.
