Starting Monday, June 2, Dorset Council will begin essential improvement works at the High East Street junction of Church Street in Dorchester. These upgrades will bring new pedestrian signals featuring smart technology to enhance safety and improve traffic flow.
The project will take six weeks to complete, with works scheduled to finish by Thursday, July 17. During this period, road closures and diversions will be in place to manage traffic. Key details include:
Road Closures
Icen Way: Closed June 2–June 6
Friary Lane: Closed June 2–July 17
Traffic Management
Temporary three-way traffic lights will be in use throughout the works.
Pedestrian access will be maintained, with a temporary crossing provided. However, waiting times may be slightly longer due to the light configurations.
These upgrades are part of Dorset Council’s commitment to modernising traffic signals throughout Dorchester. While the improvements will minimise long-term road disruptions, some short-term inconvenience is expected.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. For more information and updates, visit Dorset Council’s website.
