Sirens' Song: A New Design from the Landmarks of Poundbury Series

Poundbury Good Things is delighted to introduce a beautiful new design by local artist Mary O'Flaherty; the latest addition to the Landmarks of Poundbury series.
At the centre of Mary's new design is the fountain in Victor Jackson Square, a peaceful spot in the heart of Poundbury that invites visitors to pause and enjoy the sound of flowing water. The fountain itself features sea nymphs calling to one another on conch shells, while at the very top a sea nymph raises her shell as if sounding out to the sea. In Mary's interpretation this becomes Sirens' Song — a dreamlike moment of midsummer magic.

Mary has long been passionate about the natural world, and nature often finds its way into her work. In Sirens' Song Mary has included a dancing ring of native butterflies: the bright Brimstone, the burnished Small Copper, the delicate Green Hairstreak, the familiar Peacock and the magnificent Purple Emperor — a gentle reminder of the wildlife that shares the landscape with us here in Poundbury.
For Mary, butterflies carry a deeper meaning as well as their natural beauty. As she explains: "Butterflies have long been symbols of transformation and hope. The metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly is extraordinary and reminds us that change is a natural and beautiful part of life, whether on a tiny or monumental scale. I love the idea that something as delicate as the butterfly can carry such a powerful message of renewal and possibility."
We're pleased to say that Sirens' Song is now available in the Poundbury Good Things range of greetings cards. The card collection also includes two other new designs: The Plotters Pest, based on the Poundbury allotments, and a fresh springtime version of Spirit in Bloom: distinctive pieces that celebrate Poundbury's creativity, community and character.
You'll be able to find the new cards when the Poundbury Good Things stall returns to Crown Square on Sunday 29 March from 10am to 3pm. The Poundbury Good Things team are very much looking forward to being back and seeing familiar faces again!
We'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to Mary for the imagination, care and dedication she brings to every design she creates for Poundbury Good Things. We are also extremely grateful to the team at Minuteman Press - just across from the fountain at Victor Jackson Square - whose expert support and guidance has been invaluable in helping us develop and print these new designs.
As always, every purchase from Poundbury Good Things helps support local good causes and community initiatives — the very reason our project exists. Our current fundraising focus is the award-winning Pavilion in the Park on the Great Field, which provides a wide range of free-to-access programmes for children, young people and the wider community.
We hope you'll come and visit us at the market on the 29th March and take a look at the new designs for yourself.
In the meantime, Poundbury Good Things is also stocked at retail outlets across Poundbury and Dorchester.
