Nestled in the heart of Poundbury, Pavilion in the Park (PiP) is more than just a community space—it is the beating heart of initiatives driven by the Talk About Trust, the Dorset charity on a mission to build resilience and knowledge among young people to make safer choices around alcohol, vaping, cannabis, and other substances. Through PiP, the charity offers a range of activities and events that enrich the lives of people of all ages.
Making an Impact
From after-school art clubs to the bustling activity of the weekly youth club, PiP creates spaces for connection, learning, and fun. Families enjoy free events like Easter egg rolls and Halloween crafts, while seniors benefit from monthly Senior Socials, which offer free refreshments and a warm, welcoming environment that tackles loneliness.
The youth club, operated by Dorchester Youth & Community Centre, has become a standout success, providing a safe space for around 20 young people every week. “PiP is such a warm and friendly place,” shares the team, “and we love seeing how the Youth Club, in particular, is making a positive difference.” There is great anticipation building for the Teen Holiday Hangout on August 13!

Challenges and Opportunities
Such successes are creating a challenge because of limited space in the community room. In the summer, PIPs can use the Great Field and playpark but when autumn comes, larger indoor premises will be needed for some programmes, which will require additional funding. Funding to extend the Youth Club pilot into the autumn term is a particular priority, ensuring this vital service continues.
How You Can Help
There are several ways our community can get involved and support this incredible work, including:
Contributing funds
Volunteering for activities such as kids’ art clubs, seasonal events, or Senior Socials
Donating supplies like art materials
Attending music events and seasonal activities to ensure their ongoing success
