A Fresh Look for LovePoundbury — and the Story Behind It

You may have noticed a slightly different look to our communications lately. Our logo has had a refresh — and we hope you'll agree it's a great improvement!

The old #LovePoundbury logo had served us well, but it had its limitations: the hashtag was dated, the horizontal layout that was difficult to scale, hard to read at small sizes, and not always easy to reproduce cleanly across different platforms and formats. As the CAofP has grown, with now more than 900 members, a website, a weekly newsletter, social media channels, a stakeholder engagement process, events, merchandise, and more, we needed something more versatile and more professional-looking.

Peter Foster, a CAofP member and local businessman, heard that we were thinking about a refresh and offered to take it on, donating his time and expertise. The result is the new Love Poundbury logo you'll increasingly see on our communications over the coming week

We think the new logo does several things well: new compact, stacked form makes it far more versatile as it works equally well as a small social media icon, a large poster header, or a watermark on photography. The gold heart is warm and distinctive, immediately readable even at small sizes. The deep navy script has authority without feeling corporate. We hope that you'll agree that the new logo is simultaneously professional and personal, which is, essentially, what the CAofP aspires to be.

We're phasing the new logo in across all our channels and materials, and we expect to be fully transitioned by the end of the year. We're also in the process of trademarking it, an important step in protecting the identity of our growing association.

A few years ago, a rebrand of this kind—design, testing, rollout across platforms, trademark registration—would have been a significant undertaking requiring professional agency fees and considerable time. Today, with modern design and productivity tools, the production and rollout side is manageable without all the specialist resources. Peter's generosity with his time meant the design itself cost us nothing.

We mention this because some people may wonder whether time spent on things like this is time well spent. Our view is that building an association people are proud to belong to means attending to the details: the quality of the stories, the care in the communications, and our look too. The CAofP does a great deal: the virtual hub, weekly newsletters and daily socials, the Q&A process, member benefits, community initiatives, Good Neighbours work in progress, photography competitions, and much more. A logo refresh is one small part of a much bigger picture, and it costs us nothing to get it right.

Thank you, Peter. If you have a skill you'd like to contribute to the community, you know where to find us: volunteering@lovepoundbury.org
