A Week in the Life of Your Love Poundbury Communications Team

Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes to keep you informed, connected, and up-to-date with everything Poundbury?
Let's take you through a typical week with the Love Poundbury communications team - the volunteers who make sure you don't miss what's happening in your community.

Monday: Planning the Week
Tim Wilmot, our Communications Director, starts the week deciding what will land in Friday's newsletter. He's thinking about balance: a community story, a Love Poundbury initiative update, a Tech Tuesday piece, maybe a Love Local feature or a Q&A article, and relevant local news (like last week's extended bus service announcement).
With his background in strategic digital communications and his characteristically relaxed manner, Tim has become a core part of the CAofP - the calm, competent presence making sure our message reaches the right people at the right time.

Meanwhile, the social media schedule is being prepped. Monday's post typically focuses on something from around our community, setting the tone for the week ahead. Tim works with people from across the team, planning content that keeps our community engaged across Facebook and Instagram. Most recently, he has been working with David Kingman on regular posts, stories and reels about the photography competition, 'Through Your Lens'.
Elsewhere, Sue and Jerry are checking the noticeboards. What new community events need posting? Which ads have expired? Which local businesses have submitted notices? They work with Linda Roberts to keep all eight boards fresh and current.
Tuesday: Tech Tuesday and Content Creation
Tuesday's social media post goes live - our Tech Tuesday feature helping residents navigate everything from online services and AI to useful apps. Vivienne is our Tech Guru.
Copy is being written or gathered for Friday's newsletter. Articles are drafted, refined, checked. Photographs are selected. Links are tested. It's detailed work, and it matters - because when the newsletter hits 1,400+ inboxes on Friday, everything needs to work perfectly.

Wednesday: Copy Deadline
Wednesday noon is copy deadline for the newsletter. Tim, Jerry and Moira, who share the running of it, are finalising content, making sure the tone is right, the information is accurate, the layout flows.

The Wednesday social post goes live - usually a business story showcasing one of Poundbury's independent shops or services or an update from Emma Taylor, our 'Poundbury Good Things' lead.
The noticeboards are being updated throughout the week. Sue, Jerry, and Linda are out in the community, removing outdated notices, putting up fresh ones, making sure all boards reflect what's current.

Thursday: Broader Dorchester Stories
Thursday's social media focuses on the wider Dorchester area - because Poundbury and Dorchester are interconnected, and what happens in one affects the other.
Final newsletter preparations are underway, not only for the news stories, but all the events too. Last checks, final reviews, making certain everything is ready for Friday's send.
Friday: Newsletter Day
The newsletter goes live! Fourteen hundred people receive it, and the open rate is over 70% - which is exceptional. Most organisations would be thrilled with 20-30%. It means people genuinely want to read about our wonderful community here in Poundbury.
Friday's social media is the newsletter reel - highlighting what's inside this week's edition and encouraging people to read, engage, share.
Weekend: Community Focus
Saturday and Sunday social posts and shares focus on community stories - the things that make Poundbury special, the people doing interesting things, the events worth knowing about and what our local businesses are sharing too.
And then Monday comes around again, and the cycle continues.
The Impact
Let's step back and look at what this small team achieves:
The Virtual Community Hub (VCH): Tim has made over 100 changes since launch one year ago - adding sponsors to headlines, integrating technologies such as PayPal for 'Through Your Lens', or ticketed events like the General Meetings, revising pages, adding new membership benefits, improving functionality. It's a living, evolving platform that gets better every month.
The Newsletter: 1,400+ subscribers, 70%+ open rate, every single week. Reliable, relevant, professional.
Social Media: 30,000+ views across Facebook and Instagram. Daily posts that keep the community engaged and informed.
The Noticeboards: Eight locations across Poundbury, updated regularly with community events and local business services.
All of this is volunteer-run. People do this because they believe in community, because they care about Poundbury, because they want residents to feel informed and connected.
