Community for Everyone: the CAofP GM Daytime Session at Bowes Lyon Court

Not everyone can make it to an evening event. So on the afternoon of 14 October, we held an all inclusive daytime General Meeting session for members of the Community Association of Poundbury. Our daytime sessions ensure that more people can participate comfortably.

About twenty people joined us, in the comfortable and convivial setting of the Bowes Lyon Court lounge. It was quieter and more intimate than the formal evening session held the previous week, which turned out to be the right atmosphere for the conversation that followed.

We walked through the CAofP's progress and plans, but spent most of the time on key outcomes and action points from the formal session's stakeholder Q&A from October 7 — covering topics including parking hot spots, the 20mph consultation, the Local Plan, and more, and sharing the slides that summarised what the panelists from Dorset Council, Dorchester Town Council, Dorset Police, and the MANCOs had said. (Those slides are now available in our public documents archive, linked below.)

Useful questions emerged about the status of Crown Point, about what residents can do when they notice a persistent parking problem, and about who the right person is to speak to when someone has an idea for a local green space. These are the kinds of conversations we hoped to have: grounded, practical, and leading somewhere useful. The full answers to related questions will be published one at a time every fortnight or so. Answers to previously asked questions may be found at our FAQ page.

Feedback from the session was very positive. Three people sent apologies, nevertheless the room was well attended for a daytime weekday gathering, and the discussion was lively enough that we finished on time, only just.

We're grateful to everyone who came along, and to those who made the effort to be there despite it not always being easy. And thank you to Bea West, Sue Cooke, and Kay Kay for suggesting and developing the day time session idea.

Our next daytime session is planned for end of May 2027  at Bowes Lyon Court (date tbc). We'll give plenty of notice nearer the time. If you know someone in Poundbury who would benefit from knowing about this kind of event, please tell them about it and how to join the association. If you use a wheelchair or have other specific needs for this event, please let us know so we can ensure the right help is on hand for you.

The slides from the October 14 session are available in our documents archive. Information about the formal session is here.
