Introducing Our Quiet Heroes of Poundbury

Every community has them — the people who notice something that needs doing, quietly get on and do it, and never mention it again. They don't seek recognition or thanks. They just care about the place they live, and they act on it.

We'd like to celebrate them.

Welcome to our new series: Quiet Heroes of Poundbury — stories of the small acts of neighbourliness, resourcefulness, and community spirit that make this a better place for everyone, in the spirit of the Poundbury Framework for Living Well.

Our first Quiet Hero: Peter Lee

Peter moved to Poundbury recently with his wife Linda, settling near Victor Jackson Square. He'd barely had time to unpack before he noticed something that had been bothering people for a while: the perspex cover on one of our community noticeboards had become so badly scratched over time that the notices were almost impossible to read. A noticeboard that no one can read isn't much of a noticeboard.

Peter got in touch with us to ask if he could have a go at fixing it. We said yes immediately, because the cost of replacing the perspex panels was well beyond what our Community Association could reasonably afford. Rather than wait for a solution that might never come, Peter arrived with a specialist polish, set to work, and transformed the board. It's now as clear as the day it was installed.

It took practical knowledge, a little effort, and the kind of instinct that says: I can help with this, so I will. Exactly the spirit we want to celebrate.
