Meet Adele Brothwell, Treasurer Extraordinaire

This week, we’re thrilled to feature Adele Brothwell, the dedicated Treasurer of the Community Association of Poundbury. Adele and her husband moved here in June 2022, and embraced their new community with open arms. 'I fell in love with the architecture, quietness, and walkability of Poundbury,” she says.

Her involvement with the Association began serendipitously. After attending a general meeting of the then Poundbury Residents Association in November 2022 to learn more about the organisation, Adele stepped up to volunteer for the Treasurer role, thanks to her accountancy background. Since then, she’s been crucial in managing the group’s finances, recently juggling the financial setup for the new association Community Interest Company (CIC) entity, alongside her work with a local accountancy practice in Poundbury.

But for Adele, it’s not just about the numbers. “My favourite part of being part of the association is getting to know all the different people on the team, and people in Poundbury in general,” she says. It is this sense of community connection that inspires her to champion the value of volunteering. Adele believes it’s essential to creating a thriving community, bringing together diverse perspectives and skills to forge innovative solutions and opportunities.

Her passion for community stems from her unique and varied experiences, one of which stands out as a highlight. At school, she shadowed the then Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, during a Royal visit to Portland. Tasked with reporting on his visit, Adele’s write-up for her school website scooped both local and national news outlets, an accomplishment that still brings a smile to her face. Adele’s story is a wonderful reminder of how volunteering can enrich your life while helping your community thrive. From connecting with new people to using your unique skills for a shared cause, opportunities abound.
