Meet Our Amazing Volunteers!

Over the next few weeks, we'll be shining a spotlight on the wonderful volunteers who make Poundbury so special. Our first feature is all about Sue Cooke, who has been involved with the PRA since 2023, after she moved here in 2022 with her husband, Jerry. She quickly fell in love with everything the community has to offer. From the unique architecture to the Great Field events, Sue has embraced Poundbury from the beginning. But what makes it even more special for her? Living in the same town as her sister for the first time in 44 years!

For Sue, community is at the heart of everything. "Volunteering with Lovepoundbury/CAoP was the best way to get involved," she shares. Sue plays a vital role in keeping the noticeboards up to date, helping to develop Poundbury Good Things (the association's new merchandising initiative), and, alongside Jerry, managing the Community Association of Poundbury (CAoP) membership list. Her contributions ensure smooth sailing for many aspects of our new community association.

Joining Lovepoundbury/CAoP has been incredibly rewarding for Sue. "Being one of the team has helped me feel a part of this community and given me the opportunity to make lots of new friends!" she says. Volunteering isn't new to her: having lived in various places in the South East, Sue's always found connection and fulfillment through community projects. "It doesn't just benefit me personally. It also benefits the whole community, bringing us together through a mutual love of our town and its residents," she explains.

When Sue isn't busy supporting CAoP, you might find her experimenting in the kitchen, a passion she's had for years. Jerry, her loyal taster, has the enviable task of sampling her creations (and, as Sue jokes, he never complains!).

Sue's story is one of connection and contribution. If you're inspired by her dedication and love for the community, why not join her in volunteering? Whether your passion is organising, gardening, or simply connecting with others, there's a place for you in Poundbury's thriving volunteer network. Together, we can continue making our community an even better place to live.
