New Litter Bin Arrives on Pavilion Green!

Great news for all who enjoy Pavilion Green—our beautiful community space now has its very own litter bin! Discreetly positioned by a yew hedge, this long-awaited addition marks a significant step forward in keeping our green space tidy for all to enjoy.

Persistence Pays Off

The bin's installation represents the successful outcome of sustained community advocacy, led by the local community and our  Poundbury Town Councillors. Particular thanks must go to Councillors William Gibbons and Frances Hogwood, who championed this cause and persevered through what proved to be a lengthy process. 

The installation became possible following Dorchester Town Council's ( DTC) adoption of of Pavilion Green from the Duchy. This was a crucial step, as the Council only services bins in areas they have formally adopted. The bin was provided by DTC and installed by the Duchy last week. DTC will service the bin from now on.

'We hope this new bin will make dog walkers  and our litter-pickers' life  easier,' says Councillor William Gibbons. 'I'm glad to see this practical improvement finally in place after a long and frustrating process. We have responded to the needs of the local community. Persistence does get results in the end!'

Additional Facilities for Dog Owners

The bin installation comes alongside another welcome addition: a new LovePoundbury doggy bag dispenser installed on a lamppost at the top of the green provides convenient access to a bag when one is occasionally needed. Together, the bin and dispenser mean that dog walkers now have everything they need to keep Pavilion Green clean for all users. This is one of seven installed last week across Poundbury.

The litter bin may seem like a small addition, but it represents something significant—proof that persistence and collaboration can deliver improvements to our daily lives.

Whether you're grabbing a coffee from nearby shops, walking the dog, or just spending time on the green, having convenient waste disposal where it's needed does make a difference. Here's to keeping Pavilion Green beautiful for everyone to enjoy!
