Our Community Spirit in Action: Volunteers Keep Doggy Bag Dispensers Running

  • 2 min read

Great news for responsible dog owners! We've welcomed two new volunteers to help keep our community doggy bag dispensers stocked and functioning. Please join us in thanking Linda Roberts and Rachael Coggins, who stepped forward at our General Meeting, to monitor the dispensers across Poundbury.

A Community Initiative That Works - With Your Help

Since the Community Association of Poundbury installed doggy bag dispensers at key locations around Poundbury, they've been a valuable resource for the many responsible dog owners in our community. Linda and Rachael will now ensure dispensers remain stocked, though you may notice they're not always filled to the brim - and there's a good reason for that.

We've observed that some dispensers are emptied remarkably quickly, which suggests they're being used differently than intended. These dispensers are designed as an emergency backup - a helping hand when you've forgotten your bags at home or unexpectedly run out during your walk.

We respectfully ask dog owners to remember: please take one bag if you need it in that moment, not multiple bags to stock up at home. This community resource works best when everyone uses it thoughtfully, ensuring bags are available for the next person who genuinely needs one.

Updated Dispenser Locations

We've also made one location change: you may have noticed that the dispenser on Dukes Parade has been moved further down the road to the lamp post by Gallows Down Lane for better accessibility.

Current dispenser locations are on lampposts in:

  • Coade Square

  • Crown Square

  • Dukes Parade/Gallows Down Lane

  • Middle Farm Way

  • Pavilion Green

  • Pummery Square

  • Woodlands Crescent by the Poundbury Gardens car park

Thank You to Our Sponsors

This initiative wouldn't be possible without generous support. We're grateful to Castle Vets and Eiri and her dog Beti for sponsoring the doggy bag dispensers. And special thanks to Eiri and Beti for re-sponsoring for 2026 - your continued commitment to keeping Poundbury clean and dog-friendly is much appreciated by the entire community!

The Bigger Picture

This is community spirit in action - volunteers giving their time to maintain resources that benefit everyone, local businesses supporting community initiatives, and dog owners using those resources thoughtfully so they remain available to all. If you see Linda or Rachael checking the dispensers, do say hello and thank them. And if you're a dog owner, thank you for being part of the solution by using the bags as intended and, most importantly, by picking up after your dog every time.
